Platform to enable collaboration across the R&D ecosystem launched at Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022

The Bengaluru Science and Technology (BeST) cluster was launched in a plenary session on the first day of the Bengaluru Technology Summit, 2022, by Chief Scientific Advisor (PSA), Prof. Ajay Sood, together with Prof. G Padmanabhan , ex. Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and S Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys.

The BeST cluster appears to be a platform that enables active collaboration for the entire Research and Development (R&D) ecosystem in Bangalore, cutting across disciplines and mandates, but retaining their individual autonomy, Prof. Sood explained. He anticipates that the Bangalore cluster will succeed and pave the way for future success.

The BeST group has identified health and wellness, urban life and futuristic technologies as its main sectors. Consequently, it has created teams to work in the areas of digital health, precision agriculture, urban transportation, monsoons and climate change, quantum technologies, active matter, and robotics and jet engines.

It will also focus on the central government’s One Health mission.

The conceptualization of the BeST cluster is a collaborative effort of more than 50 organizations and was coordinated by the IISc in partnership with the Center for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP).

“Bangalore is a city of science, innovation and opportunity. The launch of the BeST group could be a historic moment for science and technology in India and possibly the world,” said Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed, chief executive officer (CEO) of C-CAMP, in a statement. “Our goal is to bring stakeholders together with shared ecosystems, identify and address problems first with locally relevant solutions, but also scale nationally and internationally by building global competitiveness.”

BeST is the latest in a set of clusters supported by the Office of the PSA. Previous science and technology clusters have been established in Pune, Jodhpur, Delhi-NCR, Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad.
