Swiggy Introduces Sexual Harassment Compensation Policy For Female Casting Executives

On-demand digital convenience platform swiggy said on Wednesday that it has introduced a sexual harassment compensation policy for its casting executives, who are otherwise not covered by the scope of Indian laws for the prevention of such incidents in workplaces.

Under the policy, in addition to helping female delivery executives file police reports in the event of harassment by a customer, after completing an initial investigation, no other female delivery executives would be assigned to the same customer with the contact number highlighted, even if the customer changes locations, the company said in a blog post.

“Through the sexual harassment compensation policy, we are taking a proactive step in creating awareness and accountability among various stakeholders in the community,” said Swiggy COO Mihir Shah.

She further said: “We believe these efforts will prevent incidents from occurring and will also encourage female delivery executives to acknowledge and report incidents with the faith that action will be taken. Our goal is to empower women to feel safe in the workplace.” Swiggy delivery platform”.

On the reason behind the introduction of the policy, Swiggy said, “As temporary workers, delivery executives are not covered by the scope of Indian Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) laws.” Internal studies have shown that many delivery executives are not even aware of the contours of sexual harassment or misconduct and that there are means to address it.

Should a female delivery executive face sexual harassment from customers, male counterparts, restaurant partners or even Swiggy employees, she can contact the company’s SOS Emergency number for help.

“After providing emergency assistance, if you want Swiggy to investigate, you can file a complaint with our team on the ground,” the blog post added.

Swiggy said it is working on a solution to ensure that if harassment occurs at a customer’s location after the initial investigation is done, that customer is never assigned to any other delivery executive with Swiggy.

“The number will be highlighted so that an executive is not assigned even if the client changes location. Serious offenses punishable by law will result in the removal of clients from the Swiggy platform,” he added.

In the event that a Swiggy employee is the perpetrator, “it becomes a POSH case as the employee is tied to the company,” the blog post reads.

On the other hand, if the harassment is by a restaurant partner, consumer, or delivery partner, then an initial investigation will be conducted by an internal female-led committee followed by guidance on what the delivery executive can do. to do in terms of what the Indian penal codes are available, he added.

Swiggy said she will support the women’s delivery executive in filing a complaint and also the authorities in their investigation.
