One of the star attractions on the first day of the 2022 edition of technological sparks, Your historyThe flagship technology start-up event was the launch of this year’s Tech30, a specially selected list of India’s 30 most promising start-ups.
Shradha Sharma, Founder and CEO, Your historyunveiled the 11th annual Tech30 report to applause and cheers from an excited crowd, including founders whose companies were selected to be part of the Tech30 2022 list.
Introducing the report, Shradha said that Tech30 was created 11 years ago, so promising startups would not have to rely on investors alone to be recognized.
“We look forward to seeing you from here to wherever you grow and reach, and I wish you the best,” Shradha said, noting that previous winners included companies such as , Y which are now among the largest Indian tech companies with a global presence.
“The startup ecosystem is going through tough times, and that means we don’t have to compete, but collaborate,” Shradha said. “And we will always be by your side on your future journey.”
Despite the many challenges facing entrepreneurs and startups in 2022, innovation carries a strong ray of hope. And this year’s Tech30 list is further proof of how the startup sector plays a key role in fostering innovation and disruption, as 18 of the selected companies hold patents.
The Tech30 startup list, selected from more than 1,580 applicants, also reveals how the entrepreneurial bug has spread beyond Tier I cities.
From about 74% last year, the proportion of requests for Tier I placements has dropped to just over 71% this year. While 20 Tier II and above locations received requests from five or more startups, another 139 locations received requests from fewer than five startups.
The faith shown by investors is another important criterion. While a dozen of the selected startups had prominent investors such as Sequoia Capital India and Kunal Shah (Founder, CRED), half a dozen were backed by Accel and Tiger Global.
